Research shows that individual performance is far more dependent on the team environment than had previously been thought. Moreover, high individual performance by one or more people in a team doesn’t necessarily lead to high performance overall.
Traditionally teams have turned to team building and team facilitation to support them in the challenges they face. Team building is simply no longer the solution to driving results for businesses. To have real impact, we need to shift our focus from the individuals on the team to the power of the whole relationship system.
TCI’s Team Coaching Methodology, which Ecsel Consulting embraces, includes 4 broad phases:
PHASE 1 : Team assessment to determine “where we are today” and “where we want to be”, includes an action plan with measurement milestones.
TCI’s approach to team development starts with a practical team effectiveness model. The model is built on two complementary dimensions of team performance: the ability of teams to be productive and the ability of teams to work in collaborative relationship: the Productivity and Positivity sides of the Team Diagnostic™ model.
This way, we set a baseline. Using our proven diagnostic tools, we reveal the team’s strengths and challenges.
PHASE 2 : We then work with the team for them to create an action plan that includes two parallel outcomes:
- Measurable improvement in team competencies.This team works better together and takes what they learn into every other team they are on.
- Measurable positive impact on business metrics for this team.This work is only justified by real business results.
The four Team Diagnostic™ assessments are built from the model and designed specifically as coaching tools. The report that accompanies each assessment takes the data and configures it in multiple graphic layers, each layer more detailed. Each layer becomes an opportunity for the team to have a deeper conversation, explore new territory, and leads ultimately to an action plan for ongoing team coaching. This is a proven approach used by thousands of teams worldwide.
PHASE 3: Regularly scheduled team coaching sessions to integrate new team behaviour, learn new skills, and take new action.
PHASE 4: Completion includes a review of what the team has learned, post-coaching measurement of performance and a plan for next steps.
With a follow-up assessment and comprehensive comparison report, the team has a clear picture of where they started and where they have improved.
This is a methodology that delivers measurable results: on average, a 20% improvement in Productivity and Positivity scores comparing the initial assessment, before coaching, and the follow-up assessment after a period of coaching.
